History of Kinetic Potential Coaching

A career-ending running injury directed me towards the sport of cycling at the age of 17. Now 24, I have been able to race professionally for the last 5 years under the guidance of former pro cyclist Kyle Mendenhall (formerly Kyle Smith).

I have used his style of training, tailored to the skill sets of each athlete, to allow every cyclist reach his or her highest goals.  My first three clients progressed from category 4 racers to elite level cyclists, prompting others to suggest that I bring these training methods to the masses.  This led to the creation of Kinetic Potential coaching in 2009, a company offering totally customized training programs that give cyclists of all ability levels the chance to reach their goals.

In December of 2009 I merged with fellow coach and professional cyclist Phil Gaimon of philthethrill.net.  Phil brings a wealth of experience to Kinetic Potential as a professional cyclist and former coach at the University of Florida.

Mission of Kinetic Potential Coaching

Our goal is to adapt to the lifestyle of any client. Whether you work days, nights, or are a full time student, we excel at working around tough schedules. As a professional cyclist and former full time design engineer at Cannondale, I understand the necessity of time management and integrate it into all programs.

We strive to offer a variety of training levels. Most young riders ascending through the ranks of cycling don’t have the means to train with a power meter, but most coaching companies won’t accept a client without the use of one. This view caters toward elite racers and the wealthy, leaving kids and talented club riders without guidance. No power meter? No problem. Have one? We do that, too. You can (and will) train at the highest level either way.

Our number-one goal is to provide professional coaching at minimal cost. So many coaching programs today are incredibly expensive and give clients a “cookie cutter” schedule. Kinetic Potential’s training is completely personalized and is offered at prices much lower than anything else on the market.

Coaching Packages

Bike Fitting
We offer professional bicycle fitting for those who would like to ensure comfort, efficiency, and injury prevention while training.  Our bike fits are performed dynamically using 2D motion analysis software, giving you the most accurate and powerful fit available.  Be sure that you are getting the most out of you body every time you train.

Standard Package
We realize that not all cyclists train with a power meter, but this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have a personalized training plan! Top performance can be achieved through specific drills and perceived effort, allowing you to reach your cycling goals at minimal cost.

•    Custom training plan updated once a week
•    Initial bike fit
•    Workouts prescribed through perceived effort and/or heart rate
•    Detailed strength program throughout the off-season including 1 private session to ensure correct form
•    Pre- and post-race guidance and analysis
•    Two client-initiated phone calls per week
•    Unlimited e-mails answered within 18 hours

Elite Package
For those who want to get the most out of their training and power data.  This program offers the same analytical benefits as the professional package without some of the extra features.  Now you can get professional level data analysis at a lower price!

•    Custom training plan updated once a week
•    Initial bike fits
•    Workouts prescribed using perceived effort, power, and/or heart rate
•    Detailed strength program throughout the off season including 1 private session to ensure correct form
•    Pre and post race guidance and analysis
•    Unlimited phone calls
•    Unlimited e-mails answered within 12 hours

Professional Package
For the cyclist looking to perform at the highest level. Specific baseline tests are carried out in order to determine power/HR levels, and your training is customized in order to maximize your improvements. If you want to train like the pros, then this package is for you!

•    Custom training plan updated once a week
•    Unlimited bike fits
•    Workouts prescribed using perceived effort, power, and/or heart rate
•    Detailed strength program throughout the off season including 1 private session to ensure correct form
•    Pre and post race guidance and analysis
•    Nutritional guidance
•    Unlimited phone calls
•    Unlimited e-mails answered within 6 hours
